Drawing a younger audience to classical music, part 925

San Jose (CA) Mercury News:
Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, walked undetected through the crowded lobby of the Herbst Theatre at intermission Thursday night. But more interesting than his under-the-radar presence — he stood alone for several minutes, chatting on his cell phone — was his age: At 63, Tilson Thomas may well have been the oldest person attending this concert by the Magik*Magik Orchestra and its young conductor, Benjamin Shwartz.
The concert included music by living composers such as Arvo Pärt and John Adams, but the big draw for the 20-somethings was a composition by Jon Greenwood, the lead guitarist for avant-garde rock band Radiohead, which was in town for a concert the following night.
