Why blog?

One of the sites that I follow, Catalysts & Connections, pointed me to a new blog authored by Sibelius Academy faculty member Miikka Salavuo.

In his opening post, he talks about the value in blogging:

Every time I write about something, I learn. So, I hope this will become a learning tool for my self, but perhaps also for other people interested in same areas as I am. Maybe even a part of a knowledge network.

Although he sees the power and potential in blogging, he's also hesitant, fearing that it is a bit egocentric to presume to share thoughts on the internet:

Some time ago, I - like perhaps many others - believed that blogging is for people who believe they are so important, interesting and intelligent, that their thoughts should be visible for all to see! . . . . There is no doubt that blogging is an egoistic activity, no matter how academic or “scientific” the blogs are.

I, for one, welcome him to the blogging world. There is much to discover by reading and writing in this medium and I welcome all those who venture into it.
