Music National Service Initiative

I'm doing some background exploration on Obama's MusicianCorps plan and you might be interested to learn a little more.

Today, a little about the Music National Service Initiative.

Tomorrow, we'll hear what some veteran music educators have to say about the volunteer plan.

But first: MNSi, as described on their website..

The Music National Service Initiative (MNSi) seeks to strengthen and expand the field of music-based volunteerism and service in order to improve lives, build communities and engender global understanding of the common humanity of all people.

With the right support, creative artists can use their talent and energy to meet important civic and social goals. The Music National Service Initiative (MNSi) is launching MusicianCorps, a “musical Peace Corps” that calls and enables musicians to serve in:

1. Underserved schools and communities to develop more successful students and youth;
2. Health care and therapeutic settings for patient recovery and improved functioning;
3. The public domain for increased civic engagement, volunteerism, diplomacy and peace.
