Craig Jessop conducted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir until a few months ago. I haven't quite figured out what happened under his leadership. Either he and Mack Wilberg shaped the choral group into something that goes way beyond the choir I grew up with, or I just aged enough that their music became something I'd listen to by choice. If that's the reason, Lawrence Welk can't be too far in my future, as horrifying as the idea is to me now.

I rediscovered the choir when I went to a Pioneer Day concert a year ago. They did a selection from Rachmaninoff's Vespers that resonated inside me until I was wiping my eyes and trying not to look like too much of a basket case in front of my family.
