USA Weekend: A cappella is hot

USA Weekend, the syndicated Sunday-only fluff magazine published by USA Today and intended to be distributed with other newspapers, discovers college a cappella groups:
For decades, collegiate a cappella singing remained a "frenzied subculture" of campus life, writes Mickey Rapkin in "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory". Then, in the mid-1990s, a cappella singing boomed on college campuses, growing from approximately 200 groups to more than 1,200, according to Rapkin.
Nothing that's news to any of us, but it's nice to have a high-profile magazine mention it (USA Weekend is distributed by about 600 newspapers to some 23 million readers). Maybe next they'll discover community choirs.
