I've found an entirely new interest in R. Thompson's "Alleluia" after this post on ChoralTalk:
I wonder if the Knockers of Thompson's Alleluia have ever considered or felt or heard a version of the piece that signposted its likeness to the physical act of human creation?
From the gentle un-pushy breathings of foreplay to the insistent hammerings of the orgasmic climax, and onto the "cigarette" afterwards phase . . . . if this has been a sacrocanct religious experience for you, then forgive my earthiness in enjoying the sensuality.
How _could_ one not enjoy it? But then, there are those who don't care for intimacy either . . . . . and those who find sex boring. Hmmm.
Heck, I've found a whole new reason to read ChoralTalk everyday! Thanks for the insight, Leigh!

That could describe any thousand of compositions. One can make a sex tie-in with almost anything. That doesn't mean we always should. The last thing I want is to be thinking wild sex imagery while I'm trying to commune with God. There's nothing wrong with sex, but this kind of comment is clearly to provoke controversy, not to add anything meaningful to the appreciation of the piece. Exhibitionistic. I cannot thank you for putting that imagery in my mind for the next time I sing one of my all time favorite choral works.
I agree with Mr. Taylor. How sad to associate that voyeuristic description to beautiful music. Neither clever nor appropriate.
