Robot conducts Detroit Symphony

Honda's ASIMO robot conducted the Detroit Symphony last night. You can see the video here. Depending on your viewpoint, you could conclude:
  1. Conductors aren't really so important, at least for professional players
  2. Audiences aren't very discerning
  3. The music wasn't very difficult
  4. Robots are getting pretty clever.
I'd venture to guess that rehearsals, a pretty important part of a conductor's job, were handled by a human.
