In the mid 60's I was a child in crisis, surrounded by dysfunction and alcoholism in my family. I was withdrawn and unsure if I was loved. My elementary music teacher taught my class songs like "There's A Golden Harp in the Heaven's For Me" and "Hold On!" Yes, at my age I still remember the lyrics and and can sing them today. Both were spirituals that implied if you are suffering, there is still hope for something beautiful out there. I sincerely doubt that I was the only child whose heart was touched by this. It was a positive direction that I hadn't had before....that instilled hope and a perhaps even a spiritual grounding through the everlasting beauty of sacred music.Read the whole thing.
Choral music is poetry on wings....
