Tarik O'Regan

More people blogging about choral music.

Here's one about British composer Tarik O'Regan.

A portion:

It's very easy to like the choral music of Tarik O'Regan.

The young British composer isn't afraid to be up-to-date. A signature element of his music is chords with lots of notes that sound close together - what musicians call clusters. Too, his style nods a little to the mystic minimalism of Eastern European composers, or perhaps a colleague closer to home, the Brit John Tavener.

Yet O'Regan grounds his music in the mother lode of Western music - the consonant harmonies that still pervade our iPods, airways and concert halls. The mixture of sweet consonances and enveloping sounds made the Saturday afternoon concert at St. Philip Presbyterian Church enjoyable and memorable.

It goes on to preview a concert by Austin choral group Conspirare and its conductor, Craig Hella Johnson.
