Always good to hear about new choirs forming. In Omaha, the 12-year-old choir Canticum Novum has spawned four new groups, aimed at various ages from K-12. The new ensembles will be under an umbrella organizations called
SingOmaha and will be directed by two new directors in addition to Canticum's Matt Hill.
SingOmaha is opening its doors soon and will offer enhanced musical education to young talent in the area.
SingOmaha is a nonprofit organization created to provide persons of all ages a chance to study and perform choral music. It is comprised of five ensembles. Canticum Novum (SingOmahas flagship group) is the adult choir and has been in existence since 1995.
Director Matt Hill is most excited about the four newest ensembles which were created for youth in kindergarten through 12th grades. Sono Via (K-2), Coro Fidelis (3-4), Laedo Canto (5-7) and Eclectica (8-12) present students with a musical learning experience most school curriculums cannot accommodate.
Ensembles for the younger children lay a musical foundation by teaching fundamentals. As students progress through the program, their possibilities for growth multiply. For example, they learn to sing in new languages, play instruments and explore music on new levels.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 18, and Saturday, September 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at FaithWestwood Methodist Church, 4814 Oaks Ln (120th and Old L). For more information or to schedule an audition, contact Matt Hill at 402-208-0081 or info@singomaha.com.
